Leslie C. McLean, Ph.D., P.Eng., FCAE
Les McLean’s 35 years of experience in the iron and steel industries has spanned a broad range of technical, managerial and executive responsibilities. His first 25 years were spent at one of Canada’s largest steel producers, where he held positions that included Chief Engineer and Vice President – Technology. In this last position, he was responsible for departments including Research and Development, Engineering, Metallurgy and Quality Assurance, and later a subsidiary which sold steel-making technology to other steelmakers worldwide.
In 1994, Les joined an international metallurgical engineering and consulting company as Managing Director – Iron & Steel, a position which he held for 10 years. In that capacity, he was responsible for all iron and steel projects undertaken, and he was often personally involved in high-level technological assessments of existing and proposed iron and steel facilities for clients.
Les earned his Ph.D. from McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario and he is a Fellow of the Canadian Association of Engineers.
